In general, you are allowed to have the surgery if: You are not significantly overweight (more than 30 pounds of your ideal body mass index). You are not taking drugs or herbal supplements that can increase your risk of bleeding. You are suffering from breast soreness and other discomforts. You don’t have a bleeding disorder. You don’t have a history of alcohol abuse. You don’t use steroids. You have abnormally large breasts. You have good skin elasticity. You have low self-esteem due to the appearance of your breasts. You have realistic treatment goals. How a male breast reduction is performed During the procedure, your surgeon will use various techniques to improve the appearance of your breasts. If you have large breasts due to excessive fat tissue, your surgeon will use a procedure called liposuction. It involves creating a surgical incision in your breasts and inserting a thin hollow tube attached to a powerful suction. Excess fat will be removed from your breasts until your desired results are achieved. If you have sagging breasts due to loose skin, your surgeon will correct it by making an incision around your areola or within skin creases. Your surgeon will remove excess skin and will use sutures so that your breasts will appear firmer and more masculine. Recovery after the procedure Immediately after your surgery, you will have a dressing and compression bandage over your wound site. This helps prevent infection and swelling. Your breast incisions may have drainage tubes to allow blood and other body fluids to drain freely. This will be removed after several hours. To address pain and other discomforts, you will need to take pain relievers and anti-inflammatories. If your condition is stable, you will be allowed to go home the same day. You will be advised to return to your daily activities after 2 to 3 weeks.
