You have droopy eyelids. You have fat deposits under your eyes. You have wrinkles around your eyelids. You have noticeable bags under your eyes. You have realistic expectations. Your vision is reduced due to excess skin in your eyelids. Our eyelid surgery image gallery will help you to set realistic expectations for this common procedure. How an eyelid surgery is performed The procedure makes use of a local anaesthesia to numb your eyelid area. Depending on your condition, your surgeon will create incisions in the creases of your upper eyelids, below your eyelashes, or in the innermost part of your eyelid. To reshape the area, your surgeon will remove excess fat, skin, or muscle. The surgical incisions are then closed using very small sutures. Your surgeon will then cover your wound with a clean dressing to protect it from injury. The recovery Immediately after the procedure, it’s normal to have soreness and bruising in your eyelid area. To prevent any discomfort, your surgeon will advise you to take pain medications and anti-inflammatories. You will need to place an ice pack on your surgical wound for several days to reduce swelling of the area. For the first few weeks after the procedure, you may experience watery eyes and light sensitivity. Once your stitches are removed, the swelling and bruising around your eyes will start to diminish. When to consult with your surgeon Before discharge, your surgeon will give you a schedule regarding your follow-up. However, you should consult immediately with your surgeon if you develop the following: Changes in skin sensation Fever Increasing pain Numbness in your eyelid area One of your eyelids is higher than the other Pus draining on the incision site Severe itching of your eyelids Uncontrolled bleeding Vision changes For more details about this procedure, please visit our main eyelid surgery page, or contact us to schedule initial consultations with Dr Sawhney.
