Adding Volume To The Lips

Also known as lip fillers, lip rejuvenation treatment can achieve long-lasting results. Volume can be added to the lips in precise areas to increase lip size, change the shape of the lips, address asymmetry and more. Treatment steps can be tailored to meet each person’s needs, making lip volume treatment a highly personalised option.

What can adding volume to the lips achieve?

Depending on your features and your individual preferences, an aesthetic treatment for lips can:

  • Increase lip size
  • Adjust the shape of the lips
  • Address asymmetry
  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth
  • Define a cupid’s bow

At your Sculpted Clinic consultation, you will explain your personal goals for the treatment and have your lips assessed to help create a treatment plan. You can discuss how much volume you want to add, the specific areas you want to treat and the kind of results you would like to see.

Who are suitable candidates for lip volume treatment?

Before having a treatment to add lip volume, you’ll need to make sure that you are a suitable candidate for the treatment. Not all treatments are suitable for everyone, as each person will have their own needs, expectations and health factors to consider. At Sculpted, we assess your suitability for the treatment during your initial consultation to help you decide if the treatment is right for you and to help prevent any complications from occurring.

Our experienced team will ask about your expectations for the treatment and your personal preferences. You’ll need to let us know of any health conditions you may have, or any medications or supplements you are taking, in case they may be contraindications to the treatment. We can also briefly discuss some lifestyle factors that may need to be considered when discussing preparation and aftercare steps, which we will also cover during your consultation.

We will assess the condition of your lips to assess the amount of volume that is currently there, any asymmetries, your natural shape, and any concerns you have told us that you want to focus on. This will help us decide how much volume may need to be added and where, to achieve the results you want.

Suitable candidates for lip volume treatment will need to be in good general health and not have any known allergies or hypersensitivities to anything that will be used during the treatment. Candidates who have an active infection on or around the lips, active cold sores or open wounds may not be suitable. You should also let us know if you are prone to cold sores, even if you don’t currently have an active cold sore. Candidates who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding may also not be suitable for the treatment. Smokers may be advised to quit before treatment to be considered suitable, as smoking can shorten the longevity of the treatment’s results. Suitable candidates should have realistic expectations and be able to follow preparation and aftercare steps.

Preparing for an aesthetic treatment for lips

If you need to take any steps to prepare for your lip volume treatment, we will discuss them during your consultation. Sometimes, we may advise candidates to stop taking certain medications or supplements, or to quit smoking for a specified period of time. Avoiding the consumption of alcohol just before your treatment may also be recommended.

When you arrive at the clinic, you should not be wearing any makeup (particularly lipstick). We will let you know if there are any other steps you may need to take on the day to help with your treatment.

How a lip volume treatment works

In a 10 to 15-minute facial rejuvenation treatment, volume can be added to the lips with a method that achieves instant results. Results are long-lasting, highly personalised and can be refreshed in the future with maintenance treatments.

Your personalised treatment can be designed to add a certain amount of volume to the lips (an amount that you can decide on during your consultation!) in precise areas. You may want to focus on a cupid’s bow, increasing the size of the lips, creating a specific shape, or reducing the appearance of fine lines around the lips. Whatever you would like to achieve, we can aim to make a plan that will suit your needs.

Before your treatment, we’ll explain what to expect on the day of your treatment session and how the treatment will be performed. Results will vary from patient to patient, as each person will have unique facial features and their own personal preferences.

You should be able to resume your normal daily routine after your lip volume treatment, but may need to take some precautions to help protect the treated area. We’ll go over the aftercare steps during your consultation.

While a treatment to add volume to the lips is non-surgical, you should always choose to undergo the treatment with an experienced and trained team. At Sculpted Clinic on the Gold Coast, our team is led by experienced Specialist Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgeon Dr Raja Sawhney.

Aftercare steps and tips

Following a lip volume treatment, you’ll need to keep some aftercare steps in mind to help the area heal and prevent complications. We can provide you will all of the information you need to know during your consultation, including what to expect in terms of side effects and how to manage them, should they occur.

After your treatment, you may experience swelling or redness around the lips, which usually subsides on its own but may be reduced faster by following aftercare instructions. Some bruising may also occur, which should also sufficiently subside after your treatment. Since swelling is quite common, we always advise that you wait until any initial swelling has subsided before assessing the results of your treatment.

Following aftercare tips can help your lips heal sufficiently and prevent further side effects from occurring. Aesthetic treatment for lips is non-surgical but will still require you to take some precaution after your treatment session.

We will give you personalised aftercare steps and tips to follow during your consultation, as no two treatments are the same, but here are some common aftercare instructions:

  • Avoid wearing makeup (particularly lipstick) for 24 hours
  • Avoid using harsh products or undergoing other treatments on the lips
  • Avoid picking at, itching or applying pressure to the treated area
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure
  • Avoid excessive heat exposure for up to two days
  • Avoid taking certain medications or supplements for three days to one week
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for up to two days
  • Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours
  • Take mild pain medication to manage discomfort
  • Keep the skin clean in the treated area
  • Sleep with your head elevated to help the swelling subside

After your cosmetic treatment for fuller lips, keep an eye on the area for any signs of possible side effects and be sure to contact the clinic if you have any questions or concerns.

The costs of your lip volume treatment at Sculpted Clinic, Gold Coast

An aesthetic treatment for lips is a personalised treatment, with steps that need to meet each patient’s personal needs. Are there any possible complications that can occur after a lip volume treatment?

A cosmetic treatment for fuller lips can sometimes cause side effects, but these side effects can be minimised by using suitable techniques, implementing preparation and aftercare steps and ensuring that a candidate is suitable for the procedure.

While an aesthetic treatment for lips is non-surgical, it will still require some aftercare, as some minimal side effects can be expected initially after the treatment. These minimal side effects should subside soon after treatment and typically do not need any further attention. Minimal side effects include swelling, redness and bruising. If swelling becomes severe or redness and bruising seem to persist, please contact the clinic or seek medical attention for further advice. Aftercare steps and tips can also help you manage these minor side effects until they subside.

Further complications that can occur include prolonged swelling, discomfort or pain, numbness, discolouration, lumps or bumps, asymmetry, or infection. Allergic reactions can also occur, but we aim to prevent this by assessing your suitability for treatment before your session. If you think you may be experiencing one of these complications, you’ll need to contact the clinic or seek medical attention. We will explain how to spot signs of any complications during your consultation.
