Arm lift or brachioplasty surgery

An arm lift reduces excess skin and fat in the arms between the shoulders and elbows (upper arms).

The aim of the procedure is to target skin and fat while maintaining important structures that traverse the arm for function of the upper limb, including nerves, muscles and blood/lymphatic vessels.

The risk with the arm being a circular part of the anatomy is removing too much skin. Only small amounts of skin excision are usually required to close the skin with little tension, allowing for sufficient healing and scars that don’t end up stretching or becoming overactive. Liposuction may be added to the procedure to remove excess fat below the skin.

If fat excess and skin laxity are mild, liposuction or even non-surgical fat reduction and skin tightening treatments may be suitable. You can ask our clinic staff about these treatments. See Emsculpt Neo.

Brachioplasty procedures are commonly performed with other body procedures. To discuss your options for combining procedures, please mention any additional concerns to Dr Sawhney during your first consultation.

Preparing for Surgery

You will receive instructions that will help you prepare for your procedure during your consultation.

You might be asked to stop taking certain medications or supplements for a specific length of time before undergoing your procedure.

If you are a smoker, it is of utmost importance that you avoid this completely for six weeks before and after your surgery, as smoking can increase the risk of wound breakdown and fat necrosis.

Suitable candidates for brachioplasty

To be considered suitable for any cosmetic surgical procedure, a thorough evaluation that considers your health, lifestyle, expectations and other personal factors is important.

Individuals who want to target excess skin and fat in the upper arms may be suitable for a brachioplasty.

Suitable candidates for brachioplasty should be in good health, at a healthy and stable body weight, have realistic expectations for what the procedure can achieve, and understand the steps that may be involved during recovery.

Candidates may be instructed to quit smoking, stop taking certain medications or make other changes before surgery to be considered suitable.

All of the factors that need to be considered when it comes to determining your suitability for surgery will be discussed during your initial consultation with Dr Sawhney.

During your consultation, Dr Sawhney will assess the condition of your arms, including the amount of fat that may be removed and the level of skin laxity in the area. He will discuss the details of your personalised procedure plan, outlining what you can expect before, during and after the procedure.

Possible benefits of surgery

Brachioplasty will permanently remove the targeted fat and excess skin from the arms.

Surgery can be a suitable option for those who want to achieve permanent results.

As for the further benefits of the procedure, it will come down to your personal needs, preferences and concerns, as all procedures are personalised to meet each patient’s unique needs.

The procedure can be highly tailored to suit your personal needs, which can be considered as a benefit of the procedure in itself.

Contact our team to book a consultation with Dr. Sawhney to discuss how the steps of the procedure can be tailored to your needs.

Your consultation

Your consultation for brachioplasty will involve discussing your personal concerns, procedure goals, health factors, lifestyle factors, and procedure expectations.

Dr Sawhney will examine your upper arms to assess the amount of fat and skin laxity in the area. He can then plan the details of the procedure, tailoring the steps to meet your needs.

You will be able to discuss what to expect during recovery, any steps you will need to take to prepare, what to expect on the day of the procedure and the possibility of combining the surgery with other types of surgical procedures.

Procedure costs will also be discussed during your initial consultation, as costs will need to consider the details of your procedure plan.

Possible risks and complications of the procedure will be discussed in detail, allowing you to make an informed decision as to whether or not you want to undergo the procedure. A discussion of how risks can be minimised both during and after surgery will also be an important part of your consultation with Dr. Sawhney.

The brachioplasty procedure

An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is performed to target excess skin and fat in the arms between the shoulders and elbows (on the upper arms).

The surgery is performed under general anaesthesia. Your incisions will be placed depending on your personal procedure plan, and different methods may be used (such as liposuction) to remove excess fat and/or excess skin. Dr. Sawhney will use techniques and an approach that suits your personal needs.

You will be able to receive detailed information on how your procedure will be performed during your consultation, as well as what you can expect on your procedure day.

Recovery and aftercare

After a brachioplasty, you will need to get sufficient rest at home before returning to work or resuming other daily activities. It will be normal to experience pain, discomfort, swelling and bruising in the operated area, which Dr. Sawhney will provide you instructions on how to manage or minimise.

Avoiding heavy lifting and strenuous exercise will be highly important during your recovery. You’ll need to allow your arms and the incision sites to adequately heal, and using your arms to lift heavy objects or perform strenuous movements can interfere with this.

You will receive wound care instructions to help take care of your incision sites. Your instructions will help to keep the incisions clean, prevent infection, reduce the appearance of scarring and encourage sufficient healing.

You may need to stop taking specific medications or supplements during your recovery, as some medications and supplements can interfere with the healing process after surgery. You might also be instructed to quit smoking and avoid alcohol after surgery, while following a healthy diet and staying hydrated.

Follow-up appointments may be required during your recovery to allow Dr. Sawhney to monitor your healing and results. Should you have any concerns, you are able to contact our team to receive further advice.

Costs of Brachioplasty at Sculpted Clinic on the Gold Coast

The details of your surgery costs must be discussed during your consultation. Costs of a brachioplasty will need to consider personalised details of the procedure, including the detailed steps of surgery, and other factors such as follow-up appointments or the cost of required items during your recovery.

Surgeon’s fees, anaesthesia fees and hospital fees will also need to be factored into the total costs.

When you see Dr. Sawhney for your consultation, you will discuss these procedure details and be able to receive more information on surgery costs.

Please contact our team if you have any further questions, or book your consultation today.

Risks and complications

The possibility of complications occurring during or after surgery will always need to be considered before undergoing any cosmetic procedure. Dr. Sawhney will outline the possible risks and complications of brachioplasty during your consultation. He will provide you with preparation and aftercare steps to follow that can help to minimise these complications.

Some complications can include swelling, pain, discomfort, bruising, scarring, prolonged wound healing, infection, seroma (fluid accumulation), skin necrosis, asymmetrical results, lumps or bumps in the operated area, and temporary or permanent changes in skin sensation.

Complications are prevented with specialised techniques, and ensuring that the candidate is suitable for surgery before undergoing the procedure.
