Fat Dissolving Injectables

This treatment provides targeted fat reduction results without surgery

A relatively new treatment, they’re also fast working, and relatively safe when implemented by a trained practitioner.

Why undergo fat dissolving injections?

Fat dissolving injections are most commonly used to effectively treat double chins. Excess fat in the neck under the chin or “double chin” affects many people and can be related to weight gain, genetics and/or ageing. However, you don’t have to be overweight to have this and no matter how much you exercise or diet, this may not resolve. Fat dissolving injections are a non-surgical option to target this stubborn fat.

How do fat dissolving injections work?

Fat dissolving injections contain a synthetic active ingredient called deoxycholic acid that is a naturally occurring molecule in the body to aid in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected, fat cells are destroyed and can no longer store or accumulate fat. Multiple treatments are usually required and once the desired aesthetic goal is reached you can stop.

Each treatment consists of multiple small injections under the chin. The number of treatments varies from patient to patient. Each treatment is spaced at least one month apart. Most patients see visible results within 2 to 4 treatments.

What side effects can occur from fat dissolving injections, and what can go wrong?

Side effects to the injection sites include bruising, swelling, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness. These tend to be self-limiting and usually resolve in the first one to two weeks.

Risks

Fat dissolving injections can cause more serious complications including tissue cell death (necrosis) and damage to nerves, which may result in an uneven smile, facial muscle weakness or trouble swallowing. It is important that the injections are performed by highly trained staff who are well educated in the anatomy of the structures of the neck and how to avoid these deforming complications. Our staff at Sculpted Clinic are well trained and provide a professional service with a high standard of care under the supervision of Dr Sawhney.
